Chocolate Hazlenut Protein Balls

Need A Supstitute In The Fridge To Replace Chocoalte? I Do & Here It Is

I have already shared another kind of recipe for protein balls, today I am sharing again but this time with a different nut base and chocolate instead of vanilla. This is just me in the kitchen messing around with what I have in the pantry and what I come up with. I just like sharing my ideas to try and show you something you may not have thought of. These are really easy to make, I keep them in the fridge and when I am craving chocolate or something nasty I grab one of these and feel better knowing I have eaten a healthy home made protein ball rather than a snickers bar.

You Will Need:

2 Scoops Vanilla Protein Powder & 2 Tspn Cocoa (or Chocolate Protein Powder)

1 Packet Hazelnut Meal

2 Table Spoon Chia Seeds (for omega3)

Low Fat Milk (just enough to wet the mix)

Coconut Oil

Shredded Coconut to roll them in

What To Do:

Put dry ingredients in the bowl, add a splash of milk, mix, may need to keep adding small amounts of milk until mix becomes wet to stick together. Roll into bite size balls. Roll in coconut. Done. 10 minutes. Refrigerate. Enjoy.

How To Make The Cutest Little Stick Insect

Check out this cute little idea for the kids to make a stick insect. My daughter brings all sorts of things home from Kindy, usually other peoples recycling which as soon as she goes to bed is disposed of just quietly. Yesterday she brought home this cute little guy that we were all laughing at and playing with. It is such a simple idea any little hands can have fun both making it and playing outside with it.

Find a small twig from the garden for your stick insects body, attach some pipe cleaners for leggies and stick on some eyes using sticky tape so there is no waiting for glue to dry. These can of course all be bought from the craft section of any shop. Then you have a cute little stick insect to keep your little person busy in the garden, you could even make a whole family of them!

Can you see him in his natural habitat? Awww he’s so cute!

The Imperfect Pumpkin

Earlier this year I planted my first ever veggie patch and to my surprise it was quite successful. I ended up with more tomatoes and cherry tomatoes than we could eat and I became the proud parent to the most gorgeous baby pumpkin. It wasn’t all that easy to grow the pumpkin I had to intervene with a little pumpkin IVF see my post My IVF Pumpkin for a few tips on pumpkin growing!

It was very exciting when this little guy grew, it was fun watching it get bigger and bigger. There were times when we’d check it one day and you would swear it had grown over night. Eventually the little guy was all grown up and the vine started to dry out so we picked it off and brought it inside!

He didn’t stand a chance, and was turned in to pumpkin soup almost straight away and gobbled up for tea last night! Yummy and how exciting to eat something that I grew from a seed, I’m so at one with nature right now! Ok not really out of four pumpkin plants I really only got one pumpkin, I blame the bees.

Anyway if you haven’t give a veggie patch ago why not try it, it’s great never running out of tomatoes or making something out of what you grew. Google what to plant in your state at this time of the year and in a month or two you will have some of your very own veggies to eat and it’s a great lesson for the kids that vegetables don’t grow in supermarkets!

My IVF Pumpkin

So you may have read one of my older post’s Pumpkin Patch, where I explained the sex life of pumpkins. Just to re-cap, pumpkins are a fruit, what the hell, who knew right? Their plants have male and female flowers, the bees buz about in a guy flower, then buz about in a hot chick flower and magic, a pumpkin is created.

Well, I noticed nothing was happening to my female flowers they weren’t turning in to fruit they were just dying off. Then it occurred to me, I had never seen a bee anywhere near that side of the garden. So it was time to take nature into my own hands, I got a cotton bud poked it around in a male flower, then gave a female flower a good poke with the same cotton bud.

Well it worked, and below is my little IVF pumpkin. It is growing so fast it felt like each time I saw it, it had grown so I took this photo last week.

And took this photo today, it seriously has grown that much in a week, I hope it’s not because it was genetically modified!

Pumpkin Patch, No Not That Kind

Today I was out in the garden and I realised we are expecting, yes I found a little baby pumpkin growing! I have mentioned my veggie patch before and how well it’s been doing, well I have more growth to report the pumpkin vine is going crazy, I had no idea it would be this easy. I grabbed my camera so I could share with you what my little garden has been up to over the last few weeks on it’s own with no real TLC just a bit of water.

I had a quick look on the net to see if there was anything special I should be doing for my baby pumpkin and I learnt some interesting facts about pumpkins, are you sitting down, they are actually a fruit! Who knew? This little one is growing up next to a pot plant, check out how it is wrapping it’s self around the plant, unreal.

This beautiful creature is a female flower you can tell this by her ability to multi-task, nurture, put everyone else first, oops I mean, her curves! She is already bare foot and pregnant, see her gorgeous bump, that’s her ovaries and some busy bee has knocked her up that is my pumpkin soup right there growing down low and safe.

This one on the other hand is a male flower, the way to tell this is see how it looks kind of lazy, just kind of sits there doing nothing! Oh it gets better, they open up first thing in the morning, by lunch time it’s all too much for the lad and he shuts his flower and he is done for the day. So the bees have to get in early, get what they need, take it over to the female flower in order to make baby pumpkins! See it’s sticking up ready for a bee.

I also found out who’s been eating my broccoli, these little green suckers! Oh having a good old feed I see. I had two cute little broccoli heads growing one day, gone the next then the leaves were always being munched on, but today I found the culprit. Now I have to figure out what to do about these little green aliens, any suggestions?

Be the first to share my ‘Facebook’ page with your friends so they too receive regular updates from the blog, stay tuned to see how my pumpkin turns out.

Playboy Bunny Mansion

We now have two rabbits, as if three kids aren’t enough to feed and keep clean we have now welcomed Tinkerbelle and Chester to our crazy clan! My sister recently moved interstate and was unable to take them with her, so we have adopted the two little Easter bunnies. Tinkerbelle is the fat white one, and Chester is the small brown one.

We didn’t have a Rabbit Hutch and didn’t really want to spend a heap of money buying one so my Husband, who is super handy at making things, had the best idea ever. A few years ago we put in a sand pit and small cubby for the kids, as they got bigger they didn’t go in the cubby as much and it has just sat there. So after spending $30 on some chicken wire and some scrap timber from other projects, he made the most amazing rabbit mansion I have ever seen! These two rabbits are now living in Country Chic style, with high ceilings, a cosy indoor living area with an open fire place, with a spacious shabby chic boudoir, French doors leading to a private outdoor entertaining area perfect for those warm summer nights.

The kids are very happy with the reno’s and even happier when we let the rabbits out for a run around on the grass. Hopefully we never have to mow the lawn again!

It’s The Little Things

This afternoon after the school/kindy pick up, the kids found this amazing little green guy crawling across the driveway. The kids got down on their hands and knees to check out his fat little body while I ran and got the camera.

Little Miss 4 wanted to keep “Mr Caterpillar” but Master 7 explained to her that he needed to be set free so he could grow up and turn in to a butterfly. She was happy with that and said good bye to her new buddy!

My Veggie Patch

Something I have always wanted to do was have my very own veggie patch but it all seemed too hard, WRONG, it is super easy and today I am sharing my apparent green thumb with the world. I am growing cherry tomatoes, big tomatoes, pumpkins, lettuce, carrots and broccoli, something ate my cucumber plants.

So I figured it was probably about time I picked some of them before they turned in to tomato soup. I can’t get over how many I now have and there is at least 30 more on the vine.    So really there was only one thing to do turn their little red butts in to my lunch!

So if you have ever thought about making a veggie garden I’d recommend it. Mine is just outside my laundry door, so every time I am in there (which is everyday) I see them and remember to water them a little. They don’t need anything special really they have kind of just taken care of themselves, I am a bit worried my pumpkin vine is going to take over it’s going that good. Go on give it a try!

Lunch is ready.
