So we survived the first week of school and kindy unharmed, well kind of. The three times a day going back and forward to the school has taken its toll on Mr Chilled 1. The afternoon kindy drop off & pick up has totally stuffed up his routine. I thought I would share some tips on how I make getting ready for school in the morning a breeze! My motto is ‘do more the night before’ and it works.
I make five wholemeal vegemite sandwiches every Sunday night and freeze them, keep it simple, no need for a fancy lunch, I bet you grew up on vegemite sandwiches. This will stop you from running out of bread on Thursday morning and having to dig around for $7 to pay for a lunch order at school, which ends up being junk food! Each night after school or a Sunday night like tonight, out comes the lunch box, in goes the frozen sandwich and fresh fruit for recess, and tonight a homemade pizza muffin. No crap full of sugar bugs making Mr Kellogg’s richer just good old fashioned real food. Simple is healthy, simple is easy.
Once the lunch box and water bottle is re-filled each afternoon, the bags go in the hallway just outside their bedroom doors under their initial. The hooks are at little people height so even Little Miss 4 hangs up her own kindy bag. This evolved from many mornings of “Where is your school bag?”, or me simply tripping over a bag on the floor, or “Where did you put your lunch box yesterday?”, we’ve had it all! Also I am big on getting clothes ready the night before, see Do More The Night Before for a great tip on getting school clothes ready and PJs put away. We have a tight routine before/after school, it takes away the nagging because the kids know exactly what they have to do, which makes me a happy stressfree mummy!
